Glaucus was the son of Sisyphus and succeeded his father to the throne of Ephyra, the city he had built, and which later became Corinth. Glaucus took part in the funeral ceremonies and athletic games organized in honour of Pelias by Acastus, the famous Athla epi Pelia, in which some of the foremost heroes of Greece took part. At the Games, Glaucus was beaten by Iolaus.

Glaucus became known by the manner of his death. One version holds that he was devoured by his mares, crazed from drinking the water of an enchanted spring. A tradition records that this death was caused by the goddess Aphrodite, whose ire was provoked by the fact that Glaucus did not let his mares copulate, in order for them to run faster. Another version tells that Glaucus had once drunk from a spring that would make him immortal, but that no one believed his immortality. To prove it, Glaucus fell into the sea, and was transformed into a marine deity. Tradition held that every mariner who set eyes upon him died. Another version states that he had fed his horses human flesh, and was therefore devoured by the “man eating” horses
