He was a member of Sgt. Buccelli’s squad who captured Sayid & Tariq in Kuwait. 

   

U.S. Soldier No.1 & Buccelli then brought Sayid to speak to Kelvin Inman and stood guard during their discussion.

   

During Sayid’s torture of Tariq for information on the U.S. Pilot, he stood guard outside the room with Soldier No. 2; and witnessed as Sayid returned Inman’s torture box and told him of the Pilot’s fate.

   

Later, U.S. Soldier No. 1 was sitting opposite U.S. Soldier No. 2 during the ride in the military transport (along with Sam Austen, Sgt. Tony Buccelli and Kelvin Inman) when they were transporting Sayid to the middle of the desert where he is dropped off. After exiting the tranport he stood guard while U.S. Soldier No. 2 brought Sayid to Inman. (“One of Them”)

In Greek mythology, Deimos (“dread”) was the personification of terror.

He was the son of Ares and Aphrodite. He is the twin brother of Phobos and the goddess Enyo who accompanied Ares into battle, as well as his father’s attendants, Trembling, Fear, Dread, and Panic. Deimos is more of a personification and an abstraction of the sheer terror that is brought by war and he never appeared as an actual character in any story in Greek Mythology. His Roman equivalent was Formido or Metus.
